On Ennio Morricone’s birthday, 10 November, the late legend’s family announced a world tour in his honour. A series of concerts featuring the hits of one of the most influential figures in film music will include a performance in Budapest as well.
Immediately after his retirement from stage, Ennio Morricone began working on a brand new concert production in 2019 in which he would revive his greatest classic films. The large-scale, spectacular production would have been performed by a symphony orchestra, and a choir, under the button of his son Andrea Morricone. He completed plans for the new show by mid-2020, but he didn’t live to see the concerts.
After his death on July 6, 2020, at the age of 91, his family refused to let the production fall into oblivion. In 2022, the Oscar-, Grammy- and two-time Golden Globe-winning Italian composer’s final work will be staged as part of a tour.
Hungarian fans will be able to attend Ennio Morricone’s memorial concert, Ennio Morricone—The Official Concert Celebration, conducted by his son Andrea Morricone, on 18 December 2022 at the Papp László Budapest Sport Arena. In addition to the musical experiences, never-before-seen footage of the master at work and during interviews will be shown.
The well-known melodies will be performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, one of Europe’s leading and most sought-after ensembles, and a choir of more than 50 singers. Over the past 28 years, they have performed a colourful and wide repertoire.
