G. Horváth László és Szűcs Máté

Hungaroton will release the latest album of Máté Szűcs on 1 October, on which he will play the viola concertos of Hoffmeister, Stamitz, and Mozart with the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra.

We know of barely seventeen viola concertos printed from the Viennese Classicism period, compared to the uncounted violin, cello and flute concertos from that time. There is only one explanation for this: there must have been relatively few instrumentalists of real virtuosity available.

In addition to the two emblematic viola concertos of the period, the works of Hoffmeister and Stamitz, the album, released by Hungaroton, features a real curiosity: the contemporary (1802) viola transcription of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major, performed by Máté Szűcs.
